Rozome is the Japanese version of the wax-resist process known elsewhere as batik. I will spend the next six weeks around Kyoto, learning from the Rozome masters in the area as well as studying at the Nara College of Arts and Crafts
After just a few short days in Japan, I am already completely in love with my new home. There is a peace and tranquility here that is difficult to describe.
The rice patties, farm land, persimmon trees, temples and shrines of Nara city are surrounded by tree-covered mountains and I cannot believe my incredible good luck to have come at just the right time of year to watch them paint the landscape with color. The crisp Autumn air is incredibly refreshing after the heat of tropical summers and I feel completely rejuvenated.
Perhaps it is the cold that makes my nose tingle, my eyes tear up and my heart feel like bursting as I stand in awe at the beauty and calm all around me.
I love Japan so much that it is actually painful!
