Nara College of Arts and Crafts

Nara College of Arts and Crafts is located just outside Nara city, about 35 min. by train from where I currently live. Although small, the facilities, professors and students are excellent and everything I could have wished for. It is unbelievable how welcoming and kind everyone has been to me.
Thus, it was not a difficult decision to extend my stay for another month in order to finish out the school year. Even so, there is so much to learn here that I only have just scratched the surface before moving on. From indigo dying (aizome) to kimono-making to rice paste resist (katazome)  I want to try it all!

There are two weaving rooms- one for silk and the other for cotton, wool and linen.

It is so refreshing to be back in a student studio again. I love the controlled chaos, energy and creativity all around me. How I miss my own school days!

Hi,
I love your blog. You are living my dream traveling and learning about fabrics.
I want to go to japan to learn about their textile arts. Can you recommend any schools that take western students for short courses, and do you have any idea about the price.

Thanks.

Hey Maria,

It would be better to respond via email. Do you have a email address in which to reach you? Thanks.
